Is there anywhere especially suitable?

Elswick Pool has good access and changing facilities for people with disabilities.They have a session on Friday mornings 10.30 a.m.-12.30 for people over 50 who are not very fit and want to get fit. It costs £1.           There is an Aquafit session on Fridays 12.00 - 1.00 p.m. It costs £1.50. Ring Janey on 079404 73099 about the aquafit.

Newburn Leisure Centre Newburn Leisure Centre has adapted bicycles that you can hire to cycle along the riverside.There is a sports drop-in for disabled people on Tuesdays.10.00a.m.-1.00 p.m. It costs £2.50 and you can try different sports.
Groups can book to use the speedboat or to do archery.

East End Pool in Byker has a swimming session for people with special needs. It has very good facilities for disabled people. It is on Wednesday Evening, 7:30pm - 8:45pm. It is free.

Lightfoot Sports Centre has good facilities for people with disabilities. They also have a multi sensory room for people who enjoy different lights and sounds. There is a drop-in group to try different sports on Wednesday evenings 6.30.-9.00 p.m.

Kenton Park Centre has special weights in the gymm for people who use wheelchairs. They do trampolining for people with disabilities (with a hoist) every Monday 1.30 - 2.30 p.m. (cost £1.60 per person for two hours).

What will I be doing?

Trying out different types of self-defence from different places. There are some groups or you can have a teacher to yourself.

What days and times is it on?

You can arrange to go along to try it out. Get in touch with them to arrange a time.

Does it cost anything?

Trying out the first time is free. After that you have to pay.

How do I get there?

It is in the Ousburne Valley, at the buildings called 51 Lime Street. It is down the bottom of the hill past the stables.

What sort of people go? 

Anyone under 65 can try it. Then they will be able to tell you if it is the right thing for you.

Football

What will I be doing?

Training to take part in a football team. (The Millennium Allstars).

What days and times is it on?

Wednesday evenings. Meet at 4.00 p.m.

Does it cost anything?

It is free.

How do I get there?

The team play at Newburn Leisure Centre. There is a minibus meets up at West End Health Resource Centre to take you there.

What sort of people go?

It is a team for people with learning disabilities (men and women).


 Ten Pin Bowling

What will I be doing?

Playing bowls. (You need to go with a few people to have a game). There is a machine to put your scores in. You can get something to eat and drink.

What days and times is it on?

If you just organise it with some friends, you can go any time. The bowling alleys are open at different times.

Does it cost anything?

It is usually expensive. It depends where you go and what time you go. Sometimes there are cheaper games for people who are disabled. It is best to ring first to find out. You have to pay to hire the shoes too.

How do I get there?

The Wesgate Road Alley is over the road from the General Hospital.     The MetroCentre Alley is near Metroland.                                               The XS Superbowl (Longbenton) is near the Rising Sun Country Park.It is a long way out and quite hard to get to by yourself.  

What sort of people go?

Anyone can go. The alleys have special ramps to help people who cannot manage to lift the ball to play.

Do I need any special clothes?

You have to hire special shoes. Some places let you keep your own shoes on if you have a problem with using their shoes.
